Students For Scientology Host Annual Rewatching of Top Gun

WASHINGTON — As winter gently graces the Washington metropolitan area, the George Washington University’s local branch of Students for Scientology are hosting their annual rewatching of the Western classic, Top Gun.

Students are encouraged to bring popcorn, soda, or their favorite L. Ron Hubbard novel, and join the organization in Marvin’s spacious third floor ballroom this Sunday. The yearly tradition is followed by a brief viewing of Jerry Maguire and, occasionally, A Few Good Men. The GW Ax reached out to the organization's president for comment on what makes the annual event so popular and endearing.

“I think it all comes down to the non-threatening whitebread charm of Tom Cruise. I mean we can all sympathize with Maverick’s heartache, his loss, his pain. We can share in his joys and successes. Truly Top Gun is a movie for the ages.”

Brad Hangleford is President of Students for Scientology, as well as being a junior in GW’s prestigious Elliot School. This is his third year with the organization and he makes no qualms about its importance on campus.

“Where else can students go to bring down their thetan levels? Where can those of us who really hate South Park congregate? Is there not a home for the GW students who enjoy saunas? Students for Scientology fills that void. We’re here for you.”

Hangleford boasts an impressive resume. Over his tenure as President, GW SFS has raised nearly five million dollars for Tom Cruise- a kingly sum for a deserving actor.

Unlike most stories covered by the GW Ax, Students for Scientology has no detractors. So for all of GW’s stressed and broken hearted, we here at the Ax whole heartedly recommend grabbing your copy of Dianetics and skipping down to the SFS’ annual rewatching of Top Gun.
