Day After Debate, Student Foolishly Asked if Anyone Watched Monday Night Football Previous Night

WASHINGTON - As George Washington University students excitedly discussed the outcome of the Presidential debate this past Monday, controversy has erupted on campus. Witnesses in a World History discussion section on Tuesday have now come to light with stories of junior Austin Hooper asking if “people had caught the game last night,” apparently referring to a Monday Night Football game apparently on television the preceding evening.

Students in the discussion section have described a scene of pandemonium  and confusion in the aftermath of the question. Sophomore Dan Quinn, who witnessed the scene, said, “the whole class just got really quiet and looked at the guy. I kinda felt bad for him you know, like did he not know what was going on last night?”

Others had less sympathy, with Senior James Graham stating the whole event was "actually pretty upsetting [...] that this guy was so unaware of the state of affairs in the country. I mean, that’s why we go to GW in the first place.”

As many GW students were tuned into the debate last night, few students if any other than Mr. Hooper seemed aware of the Monday Night Football game between the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints.

“We have been made aware of the altercation that occurred this morning and we are investigating if any formal discipline is appropriate,” explained an official press release from the administration. School officials were quick to reiterate that GW is the most politically active campus in the country and that they plan to keep it that way by any means necessary.

Twitter users voiced their opinion on the matter with user @SPayton46 tweeting “not an issue to be upset about Colonials, the kid probably doesn’t even have an internship”.

Mr. Hooper is not currently available for comment. Witnesses did report that, as he hastily exited his discussion section, he could be heard mumbling “I didn’t think it was a big deal” and that he “was just trying to talk some football.” University officials have yet to rule out contacting Mr. Hooper’s parents.
