If Cubs Win World Series, Six More Weeks of Winter

CLEVELAND - The GW Ax has learned some startling news from the executives at Major League Baseball. According to their experts, if the Cubs win this year’s World Series, there will be six more weeks of Winter.

This seemed surprising considering Winter hasn’t even started yet, and they’ve tried to put groundhogs out of a job, but a new study published this week by the MLB’s Research Division shows that the last time the Cubs won the championship in 1904, there was a particularly long winter. They believe this pattern will continue in the unlikely event that the Chicago team manages to break their 112-year losing streak.

No one thus far has thought to ruin their projections by telling them their sample size may be a tiny bit skewed.

Groundhogs are reportedly up in arms about this development, and a spokesman for Punxsutawney Phil told us the Pennsylvania-based groundhog is threatening to quit his adorable job of leaving his hole once a year. Just how this man deciphered those little groundhog squeaks is beyond our comprehension.

This study has sparked a backlash against the Cubs from angry Indians fans, who we’re sure have had enough of the brutal Cleveland winters.

The head coaches of both the Cubs and their opponents, the Indians, have both said the teams are keeping this information in mind when preparing for the game tonight, although we have no idea how the Cubs are willing to go out and try to win with a month-and-a-half of Chicago weather on the line.

Major League Baseball has released a statement that they are not endorsing the outcome of this year’s World Series, but they felt the people deserved to know about this exciting finding. Outcry has since begun, as most are sure that “exciting” may not be the right word for this development.
