Citing a rigorous training season and heightened recruitment efforts, the GW Basketball Program has been celebrating since the upset rocked college basketball enthusiasts to their core last weekend. The show of force and teamwork has not gone unnoticed.
“Its just good to see hardwork pay off, you know?” We sat down with student athlete Mark Zutsby, who outlined exactly how it felt to finally crush the animated favorites once and for all. “We were all a little nervous when Daffy brought out the giant animated sledge hammer, but I guess cartoon physics just can’t stack up to the real thing.”
The game, set up in a convoluted plan to make Michael Jordan appreciate his kids more or something, was predicted to lean in favor of the Looney Tunes by a considerable margin. Sports analyst Jessica Cross explains.
“When you’re going against a group of cartoons, there are multiple factors that you need to take into account. They aren’t bound by the laws of physics or even basic biology, so it really becomes a matter of showmanship and teamwork. Add to that the fact that Michael Jordan was playing alongside cartoon ducks and rabbits for some reason, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster for any team.”
GW is determined to not let this win go to their heads, however. In the words of an anonymous trainer for the Foggy Bottom team- luck played a large role.
“Oh yeah, I mean we’ve got a talented group of guys. No arguing that. But if it weren’t for the last minute moral lesson about being a gracious loser and that romance subplot between the rabbit in uncomfortably revealing clothes and the rabbit that actually looked like a rabbit… well you have to wonder if luck wasn’t on our side.”
This victory is just another in a long line of stunning upsets this season. Just last week, the GW Women’s team crushed a group of enthusiastic basketball-playing golden retrievers. Next week’s game against the Harlem Globetrotters looks to be in the bag.
