The exhibit, according to officials, aims to celebrate and chronicle the Nantucket-based clothing line’s rich history and vibrant culture as a cornerstone in the fashion world of the Foggy Bottom campus.
“Honestly, it is an exhibit long overdue,” said University President Steven Knapp, adding that the exhibit was created in part due to growing complaints about the lack of cultural diversity among the current exhibits in the museum.
Knapp noted that, in contrast, Vineyard Vines could not be a better reflection of the always all-inclusive, true “Colonial spirit” as well as the deeply-rooted tradition of Washington fashion.
“I think it’s an awesome move,” said junior Patrick Chittenden, who was wearing his routine wardrobe combination of a tricolor tank top, pink pastel shorts, and a seersucker baseball cap with a cleverly shaped fish drawing making very oddly clear his love for sailing.
“Nothing is more fitting for this campus and city’s culture and demographics than an exhibit showcasing the fresh spirit of upper-class white New Englanders that Vineyard Vines brings.”
Following his interview, Chittenden entered the museum’s gift shop, asking if they carry Brooks Brothers.
